As standard, the Mercedes‑AMG GT S is shod in 10-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted titanium gray – the dimensions are 9 x 19 inch (front) with 265/35 R 19 tires and 11 x 20 inch (rear) with 295/30 R 20 tires. A host of different design and color variants are available as options, such as the ultralight forged wheels in cross-spoke design, painted black matt, with high-sheen rim flange and fully integrated wheel bolt covers.

Excellent deceleration characteristics and high fade resistance come courtesy of the high-performance composite brake system. Clad with red brake calipers and discs measuring 360 millimeters at the rear and 390 millimeters in diameter at the front, this system is constructed to cope with the higher performance of the Mercedes‑AMG GT S.

Additionally, ceramic high-performance composite brake system is available as an option. Its advantages: lower weight, longer service life and even better fade resistance thanks to the ceramic brake discs with a diameter of 402 millimeters at the front and 360 millimeters at the rear.

AMG PERFORMANCE EXHAUST SYSTEM

The Mercedes‑AMG GT S is equipped as standard with an AMG performance exhaust system with fully variable exhaust flaps. This allows the driver to vary the engine sound: depending on the selected DYNAMIC SELECT mode the driver may experience the V8 with a focus on comfort and relaxed, long-distance journeys or with a more powerful, emotive, motorsport-inspired touch. The AMG DRIVE UNIT includes a separate button to control the exhaust flaps directly. The new Mercedes‑AMG sports car has its own tonal characteristics which denote the car’s membership of the AMG family but that also distinguish it clearly from other high-performance cars.

UNIQUE STYLING

Positively arched surfaces give the Mercedes‑AMG GT S its sensuous character and the appearance of a sculpture. Viewed from the side, the dome-shaped, arched roof line and the frameless doors are eye-catching features. A muscular element sculpted out of the side wall creates a sense of lightness and dynamism, even when the vehicle is at a standstill. The surfaces and lines of the side wall flow into the rear-end with a dramatic tapered effect. The Mercedes‑AMG GT S deliberately avoids lines in the shoulder region. The only line is one lower down, picked up again in the rear bumper, which stretches the body and makes it appear lighter. The side air outlets, each with two fins, represent a typical, styling feature of Mercedes-Benz sports cars. The Mercedes‑AMG GT S has no visible aerials which could disrupt the overall appearance.

INTERIOR

AMG DRIVE UNIT

Featuring controls in stylized V8 arrangement, the AMG DRIVE UNIT is the control center for the sports transmission as well as all driving dynamics functions. The AMG E-SELECT selector lever, the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT Controller and various buttons can be used to adjust the mode, transmission and ESP®, for example. The suspension and the exhaust system can also be adjusted, depending on the car’s equipment. The driver can change between the R, N, and D transmission settings in the most direct manner possible by just nudging the AMG E-SELECT lever. When the vehicle is stationary, the Park position is activated by simply pressing the “P” button. This happens automatically when the engine is switched off. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT CONTROLLER can be used to call up the predefined modes “Comfort” (C), “Sport” (S), “Sport Plus” (S+) and “Race” plus an individually settable mode (I*). In this case, each individual mode changes the vehicle parameters as a function of the vehicle equipment – the aim being to offer the driver an optimum driving experience in every driving situation. Selecting a mode changes the settings for the drive system, the transmission tuning, the steering, the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, the selectable AMG performance exhaust system, the ESP® and the ECO start/stop function. The M button is used to activate manual mode, which allows the driver to change gear manually at all times. In addition, the AMG DRIVE UNIT has a button for selecting the ESP® levels, a button for manually adjusting the optional AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, a button for the selectable AMG performance exhaust system and a button for manually controlling the retractable rear airfoil, which depending on the car’s equipment is located in the center console or the upper control panel.

AMG INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

The AMG instrument cluster offers an exciting AMG design and valuable information for sporty drivers. Exclusivity and sportiness are visually underscored by the 2-tube look of the round dials with carbon-fiber-look backplates and a surround in silver chrome. The speedometer with 360 km/h dial is on the left, the rev counter with AMG logo on the right. The AMG main menu including RACETIMER and the AMG start-up screen are shown in high resolution and in color on the central 11.4 cm TFT multifunction display. With the RACETIMER it is possible to measure and store lap times.

AMG PERFORMANCE STEERING WHEEL

The performance steering wheel with its three-spoke design sits perfectly in the hand: it comes with silver-colored aluminum shift paddles, 12 o’clock marking and a steering wheel rim in black nappa leather with flattened bottom section. For an even better grip during sporty maneuvers, the grip area is finished in DINAMICA microfiber.

AMG SEATS

The AMG sports seats in the Mercedes‑AMG GT S provide good lateral support for both the driver and the front passenger even under high lateral acceleration and, at the same time, offer exceptional seating comfort. Their distinctive contours, the AMG badges and the integrated head restraints all add up to emphasize the car’s sporty look.

The more pronounced seat contours and the adjustable side bolsters of the optional AMG Performance seats improve quite tangibly the lateral support given to the driver and front passenger. Seat center panels in DINAMICA microfiber, seat side bolsters in ARTICO man-made leather and black belt guides represent further distinguishing characteristics compared to the standard-fit sports seats. Their distinctive design gives the interior a sporty flair all of its own.
